Rockstars and their cats...

Yep. I know this is a slightly strange topic, but I've decided to add a little life to this blog by adding a bit of feral fun. (Note:Although the picture above was probably made by putting a poor kitty through a lot of pain, you have got to admit, it is cute.)

1. KURT COBAIN

I am not quite so sure what to make of Kurt Cobain and his history with cats. I heard him say in an interview once that he liked cats a lot, as they had a 'Fuck You' attitude. And from the pictures above, it is quite obvious he gets on well with cats . But there have been quite a few rumours going around about Kurt's mistreatment of cats.Apparently,in 1981, Kurt killed a cat by trapping it inside his parents’ chimney. This was an accident. In 1991, Kurt dyed his kitten, Quisp, red, white and blue with Kool Aid — then watched it have sex with his pet rabbit Stew. This was not an accident. However, I have found no proof of this, so until further notice, it is merely a rumour. I desperately hope it is, otherwise as a cat lover, I might have to stop liking Kurt. However, that will never happen. Nirvana's music is too good.

2. FREDDIE MERCURY

Oh Freddie, I do love your pyjamas here. Oh, and your cats are adorable too. Although the cat in the other picture looks slightly freaked out. I can just imagine the thoughts running through his head ."Oh my goodness, I'm in the arms of a rock genius! What should I do?" Just enjoy the moment little kitty.

Freddie Mercury went as far as to write a song about his cat called 'Delilah'. The album's dedication went 'To all cat lovers-screw everyone else'

Delilah, Delilah, oh my, oh my, oh my - you're irresistible - ooh ooh ooh
You make me smile when I'm just about to cry
You bring me hope, you make me laugh - and I like it
You get away with murder, so innocent
But when you throw a moody you're all claws and you bite
That's alright !
Delilah, Delilah, oh my, oh my, oh my - you're unpredictable - ooh ooh ooh ooh
You make me so very happy
When you cuddle up and go to sleep beside me
And then you make me slightly mad
When you pee all over my Chippendale suite
Ooh ooh Delilah
Ooh ooh Delilah
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You take over my house and home
You even try to answer my telephone
Delilah, you're the apple of my eyes
Meow, meow, meow,
Delilah - I love you, Delilah oh
Ooh you make me so very happy - you give me kisses
And I go out of my mind - ooh ooh
Meow, meow, meow, meow,
You're irresistible - I love you Delilah
Delilah - I love you, ha ha
You make me very happy - oooh oh yeah
I love your kisses
I love your kisses
I love your kisses
I love your kisses
I love your your your kisses
I love your kisses

AWWW, isn't that cute!

3. JOHN LENNON
John Lennon is the first of our Beatles in this blog entry. Lennon like Mercury had quite a strong obsession with cats and although he didn't go as far as writing a song about cats; when he was living with May Pang, he named his two cats the musically derived Major and Minor.
In Liverpool, there were at least three cats in his house. When he was on tour as a Beatle, he would phone home to his Aunt Mimi to ask how the cats were getting on. His Mum had a cat called Elvis, named after you know who of course. And when living with his wife Cynthia, they had about ten different cats.

3. PAUL MCCARTNEY

I couldn't really find that much information about Paul McCartney and his cats, but I did find these very cute pictures.

3. GEORGE HARRISON

It seems to me that most of the Beatles had a fondness for cats.
Although I couldn't find any pictures of the last Beatle, Ringo Starr, with cats, I did manage to find this:
Perhaps he prefers animals that are slightly more ferocious.

4. DAVID BOWIE

That cat looks very Rock N Roll.

5. KEITH MOON
What's that cat doing in the car anyway? If you tried to get my cat in a car, she would scratch your face until you were permanently scarred for life.

6. STEVEN MORRISEY
I really do love this picture.

And to finish off...
Here's a picture of my beautiful cat:
Thanks for reading guys!

  1. Aww, these pictures are so adorable!!! I did not know some of these. I know about Freddie's cats thought. Notice that most of these cats look kinda the same as their owners. Especially with Bowie. And with Morrissey. OMG, I can't stop staring at the pictures. I LOVE this post! Words are not enought to describe this. Just so lovely to know that these rock stars are actually just any one of us. They have their own pets, cats that would make their hearts melt. That actually inspires them. SOOOO ADORABLE! I would die to be any of those cats HAHAHA. And your cats!! AHHHHHH I'm shrieking like a little girl who was just given her first pet! I wish I have a dog or a cat...!

Didn't Brian May wrote "All Dead, All Dead" about his pet cat who died?

Now it makes me really wonder what is it about cats that mostly all rock stars have them as a pet?

    Maybe you'll be a rock star too one day..now that's a thought.

Hell, I'll reply anyway XD Please forgive me, I'm so so SO sorry I didn't see it till now.
OH MY GOODNESS I didn't realise that the cats look like their owners...it's so true! Haha, that's so funny!
I'm so glad you loved this post, I LOVE YOUR POSTS JUST AS MUCH!
Oh my goodness...it would be incredible to be one of their cats...just amazing!
Aw, I would write a song about my cat if she died too! I love my cat Nessie very much, she's adorable.
Awww thank you so much! It would be wonderful if I could be a rockstar, though I doubt I will :) But thank you.
And don't worry, I miss letters too ;)

  5. Cats are truly irresistible! They are just too cute! And it is flattering to know that these legendary musicians and I share the same interest. I like Kurt Cobain the most. He delivers his music with a fresh rage and angst, and yet, looking at his pictures, I can say that he’s still a sweet, loving soul!

  6. The clichés that, over the years, people have come to believe about music writers are actually true of photographers. Lester Bangs and Nick Kent were the exception rather than the rule. It’s the photographers who are invariably up latest of all; draining the contents of the bar; attempting to charge it to the PR’s room; blagging themselves onto first class while we slum it 20 rows back. music t-shirts

  7. Ok, let me set the record straight. First, it wasn't Quisp, it was another cat, and he used colored washable markers(the cat was very mellow) that gradually faded. 2. The rabbit humped the cat, but it wasn't sex, it was a girl rabbit. Just like how some dogs "hump" people's legs.

  9. I may be a tad late with my comment but I don't mind. I wish we all had found this when it first was published, great post :) I always knew about Freddie Mercury's love of cats, but I didn't know the rest. Too adorable! And regarding Kurt Cobain, I'm not sure myself, but I've heard enough about it to still be pretty bothered. I personally can't decide about it until I find something official. Though I must say I have never (and never will) read his journals, publishing that kind of thing for all to see is messed up in my opinion. But in any case, all of that aside, cats are amazing! I love the photos of Freddie Mercury and John Lennon with their cats, respectively, so sweet. Songs about cats...*sigh* I certainly am no Mercury, not even close! But I have written melodies for my cats before. A very special feline friend was taken elsewhere by mistake when I was ill not very long ago, (I'll never forgive the person who did it even though they meant well). Even though it brings tears to my eyes I still have to finish that song. I wrote it for her.

  11. To start with, never purchase a feline or cat from a pet store. Not exclusively do these parasitic organizations add to the feline overpopulation issue, a large portion of these felines originate from kitty plants - cash making feline production lines tormented by illness and abuse. There are pet supply stores that give space to sympathetic social orders to hold reception days, some even have appropriation focuses right in the store. These are the capable corporate residents you should support with your business.
    funny gifts for cat lovers
